Autodesk Products Retiring on March 14th include AutoCAD 2005

Here is a list of products being retired in mid-March, 2008.

That means that they will no longer be eligible for upgrades, you'd have to buy a whole new seat the next time you want a new version, and new updates/fixes won't be posted on the Autodesk website for them (you'll still be able to find and download existing updates though).

  1. I'm doing a little market research for a friend of mine. He is currently creating a web based cad application. Is there a market for web based cad products opposed to buying a cad software application?

  2. I don't think so.

Perhaps as merely a supplement, like if we're working in the field and want to access our software. Or for temp jobs, ala 'renting' an application for the course of a short project.

But, I think most of us still have pretty brick-and-mortar feelings of possession. We like the software residing on our hard drive, with the cd in our hands... so, if there's a power loss or communications interference, we'd still be able to continue working.
