I know this has been a hot topic on the discussion groups, and a frustrating one for users who are ready to pull their hair out... well, pull no more, the fix has been posted!

This hotfix will correct a problem where cut and paste operations fail in drawings that are saved in AutoCAD® 2000 file formats.

If you open or create a file in AutoCAD 2007 and save it in AutoCAD 2000 file format and then open the drawing in AutoCAD 2000, 2000i, or 2002 and attempt to cut, copy, and paste objects within the drawing, then the cut, copy, and paste operations will fail. This Hotfix resolves this issue.

  1. The ID for the fix hasn't changed, but, the URL changed during Autodesk's most recent site redesign.

Here's is the correct URL (watch for wrapping)

    http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/
    index?siteID=123112&id=2334435&linkID=9240818

  2. Thanks for the info on the copy/past bug. However, the problem is not entirely fixed sine there are many corrupted files floating around now. AutoDesk is apparently unwilling to post utility software to fix these files (not everyone has ACad 2007). Not to worry. Download a demo copy of almost any CAD software using the Intellicad Engine (such as from CadianUSA.com or Intellicad.com). Open and save the file to fix the bug. Now the file works with AutoCad 2000!

  3. Solution (worked for me):
In Autocad2000 create a NEW drawing,
Insert the "problem file" as Exploded Block,
Now you can copy and paste.
No need to download any programs,
No need to ask friends for conversion.
    Hope this helps
    Paulo

  4. Paulo,

Thanks for posting your tip! Hopefully if there are other 2000 users out there with the problem, they can benefit from it.

    Cheers!

  5. Just wanted to say thanks for the fix on this problem. Your site was the first one to pop up when I goggled this problem. We've been trying to figure out a way for a while to fix it with no such luck. The "exploded block" fix worked like a charm. Thanks again.
